Now ‘resting’, the award-winning What The Frock! Comedy project was created to challenge an industry that knowingly overlooks the talent and presence of women.

Frock! was set up by Jane Duffus in January 2012 and has put on almost 70 events in seven UK cities, worked with more than 100 brilliant female performers (plus a few male ones), published the UK’s first ever book celebrating our long history of funny women, held women-only comedy workshops and launched the What The Frock! Comedy Newcomer Award.

Some of the superstar comedians who have appeared on the Frock! stage include: Jayde Adams, Aisling Bea, Viv Groskop, London Hughes, Mae Martin, Shazia Mirza, Cerys Nelmes, Luisa Omielan, Rachel Parris, Lucy Porter, Kate Smurthwaite and Rosie Wilby.

The dedicated Frock! website is now closed (because these things cost money to maintain), so this page serves as a small reminder of what the project achieved in its main four years of activity. Posted below are a handful of photos from some of the many events and activities. All photos are by Emily Coles, except the one of Rosie which is by Hannah Mornement.

What The Frock! Comedy maintains an occasional presence on Facebook and Twitter and its rare re-appearances will be promoted there.

What The Frock! has become the UK’s most significant nurturer of female talent,
and has meant Bristol now gives female comedians a bigger slice of the action.
